Materiais Diversos

Materiais Diversos (MD) is a not-for-profit cultural association that aims to support artistic development and experimentation, artistic exchange and diffusion and to engage communities in contemporary performing arts, particularly dance and hybrid forms, in the Portuguese context and in an international context. It aims to develop and support creation and diffusion of performances; organize diverse forms of arts events; deepen artistic professional education; research, document and publish; produce and manage infrastructural means to support such activities.
This broad range of activity is mainly embodied by Festival Materiais Diversos, a space of encounter for artists and audiences and one of the groundbreaking projects that, in Portugal, gave way to a movement of cultural development outside the urban centres — existing since 2009, the festival takes place in Minde, Alcanena and Cartaxo, small localities 1 hour to the north of Lisbon. Heading to its 10th edition, in 2019, the festival turns biennial, and becomes the festive climax of a year round programme that sustains the closer collaboration and participation of all actors involved.
