Displacement of Festivals #3: Materiais Diversos of Minde goes to Short Theatre 2020 in Rome

The third and last Displacement of Festivals involved Materiais Diversos and Short Theatre, and it was really extraordinary, because it took place during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Part of Short Theatre 2020 is the result of the collaboration and co-existence with another project partner, the Materiais Diversos festival of Minde, Portugal. Materiais Diversos moved to Rome to open a window, to set a different temperature in the locations of Short Theatre, creating a new climate for both festivals. In the past months we were supposed to work together in person but the health emergency forced us to devise other, and in the end unexpectedly fruitful, ways to collaborate. The ideas of hospitality, identity, diversity and mobility became more profound, urgent, radical and imaginative than ever.

In this multi layered, dialogue-defined 15th edition, Short Theatre 2020 welcomed the Portuguese festival Materiais Diversos – with all the variables due to the temporary relocation to Rome – here represented by four artists: Tiago Cadete, Volmir Cordeiro, David Marques and Catarina Miranda.

Here you can find a conversation among Simone Frangi, curator and researcher; Daniel Blanga Gubbay, co-director of Kunstenfestivaldesart – Bruxelles; Elisabete Paiva, artistic director of Materiais Diversos – Minde; Francesca Corona, co-director of Short Theatre, that took place during this third Displacement of Festivals.
